I recently sat down with Kyle Jones of Broward Co.’s newest brewery, LauderAle. At that time, I promised I would review their selections. They’ve added a few new beers since I’ve gone, but this is a good overview of what they have. And judging by this small selection, they have some great things coming:
They hadn’t tapped their saison, so here’s what was available:
IPA – It has a great color and I loved the noticeable malt flavor, in addition to the big hoppiness.
Hefeweizen – For a hefeweizen, the hoppy flavors stand out maybe a little too much. But, it doesn’t take away from the nice, easy, summer drinkability of a solid wheat beer.
Coffee Porter – I have noticed that coffee porters and stouts are becoming quite popular lately. It’s a good pairing, too; bold coffee flavors pair quite nicely with the darker, richer flavors of these two styles of beers. LauderAle’s Coffee Porter is a great example. It’s got a hoppy kick, but it’s nice and dark and features the coffee flavors nicely.
Russian Imperial Stout – And now we come to my favorite. On the whole, Russian Imperials tend to be way too strong for me. Not so with LauderAle’s version. It’s robust, for sure, but wonderfully drinkable and smooth.
LauderAle’s a great addition to Broward Co. and South Florida beer. It’s nice to see a couple of guys work hard and do right. And of course, we get great new craft beer.
Drink Florida Craft,
Chris
