Brew Review – 2X Armadillo Imperial Rye by Sawgrass Brewing

I know I’ve talked a lot about the great Small Batch menu Sawgrass Brewing has to experiment with new and novel beers. Today is a little different. I’m going to review 2X Armadillo Imperial Rye (Rye Beer, 7.9% ABV), one of the standard beers Sawgrass has on tap.

I love rye beers. I actually really like the taste of rye anything. And even though most rye beers tend to be a little too hoppy, this one wasn’t. It has a lot of big hop flavors, using Chinook, Northern Brewer, Fuggle, and Cascade hops. The rye tends to mellow the hop bitterness a bit, and also brings that great bready flavor into the beer.

Interestingly enough, Sawgrass also has a toasted version of Armadillo Imperial Rye. I’ll have to try that sometime soon as well. If you’re into big, hoppy beers, or you just like a nice hoppy rye, you can’t go wrong with either one.

Drink Florida Craft,

Dave
