It’s been a bit of a ride, but after some delays and a few name changes, Boynton Beach’s CopperPoint Brewing is now open for business. And it’s just around the corner from Boynton Beach’s stalwart brewery, Due South.
Don’t worry, there will be no fighting for former Big Bear Brewmaster Matt Cox and his crew. In fact, they released a beer, Round the Corner, at Due South’s Mariana Trench Day back in January. I tried that one, and it was fantastic.
This time, at the Delray Beach Craft Beer Fest (a few weeks ago at Delray Beach Center for the Arts), I was able to sample another of their saisons, Trula Saison (Farmhouse Ale, 6.4% ABV).
As with Round the Corner, Trula hits all of the right notes for a classic saison. It’s got a roughness in drinkability, a testament to the classic speed and warmth to which Belgian farmers traditionally brewed the beer. It’s light in hops, but has wonderful notes of floral and some citrus in both the aroma and taste of the beer. There’s a touch of a kick to the beer, but it’s not so bad as to be completely unsessionable.
It’s nice to see Copperpoint Brewery is finally open. I just need to make sure it doesn’t take me too long to get there.
