Brew Review – El DIablo Rojo by Twisted Trunk

For just having opened, Twisted Trunk Brewing in Palm Beach Gardens is sure getting their beer out there. This is no big surprise, since it’s the same ownership that created Palm Beach County’s vaulted Tequesta Brewing.

Sometimes I just can’t get to every brewery I want to, so at least I can try beers for places even when I’m not able to go. Recently, I was able to try another of their beers, El Diablo Rojo (Imperial Red Ale, 8.5% ABV, 64 IBU).

Oh, hoppy. Oh my, hoppy. I mean really big on the hops. They are strong and prominent, very much an IPA lover’s red ale. It’s strong, spicy, with a noticeable bitter kick that tends to overpower some of the caramel malt characteristics that still tend to lurk in the background.

Even with all that, the beer has a beautifully pronounced amber color and a luxurious head. But you can smell the hoppiness on this beer, which will entice some beer drinkers and possibly scare others away. But if you love hops, and you aren’t afraid of a red beer with the word diablo in the name, you have found your home.

Hop lovers, rejoice.

Drink Florida Craft,

Dave
