Brew Review – Night Swim by Coppertail Brewing

Porters are 1) A particular love of mine, and 2) not necessarily something you would think of when you think of Florida. Think about it: they’re dark, bold, and malty rich. It’s the complete opposite of what you would think of coming from the Sunshine State.

This is why I’m so happy there are so many good porters from around here. Not many Florida porters get canned/bottled, though. There are some, and one of those is Night Swim (Porter, 6% ABV) from Tampa’s Coppertail Brewing.

The first thing I noticed was how silky smooth this porter is. It’s very light, with a gentle mouthfeel. The aroma gives a slight hint of roasted malt character, but maintains a calm, neutral air.

Drinking the beer it is apparent that Night Swim has a slightly more aggressive hop profile than many other porters. It’s slightly snappy, and the hop is more earthy than fruity. You can still taste a nice, bready yeast and roasted dark malt character with a light coffee note to it, though.

It’s a good, light porter that still gives beer drinkers a slight edge into bolder territory.

A territory that can hopefully get some more Florida porters distributed statewide. Please?

Drink Florida Craft,

Dave
