It shocks me that I haven’t written about Inlet Brewing Company yet. They’re pretty much all over the place in their native South Florida, and I’m pretty sure they go statewide, too.
Heck, even their logo screams Florida. If you’re not familiar with that lighthouse, it’s the Jupiter Inlet lighthouse from their hometown of Jupiter.
As of right now, they are developed in Florida and contract brewed elsewhere, but they’re still as Florida as you can get. It’s just that most people don’t really know them as Inlet Brewing. They’re known as Monk In The Trunk, and most of that comes from their flagship Monk In The Trunk Organic Amber Ale (Amber Ale, 5.5% ABV).
It’s a wonderful amber ale, with a soft, sweet, caramel character to the malt that is inviting and never aggressive. The hop quality isn’t aggressive, either. There’s a moderate bitterness, but the malt easily takes control and becomes the focus here. It’s helped by using Belgian yeast, but a very mild amount, so that the biscuit quality of the beer comes through.
It’s incredibly refreshing, very tasty, and almost universally found throughout the state. I think. If not, Go to Jupiter, climb the lighthouse, get some quality Florida beer, and love the state you’re in.
And if you’re not from Florida, come visit. We have good beer.
