Brew Review – Red Rye Swamp Ape by Florida Beer Co.

Sigh… Brewery reps. Sometimes they’re warm and wonderful. And sometimes they get in the way of a poor, unassuming beer blogger trying to take a picture of their Swamp Ape Red Rye DIPA (Imperial IPA, 9% ABV, 90 IBU).

Someone will need to let me know who this is…

I love rye beers. I enjoy how they have a light, bready kick with an almost meaty quality. They, and Red Rye right along with them, end up being very mature with just a few caraway seeds away from being a perfect loaf of bread.

But this is Swamp Ape, my friends. And when you have a Swamp Ape from Florida Beer Company, that means hops. Big, bold, brassy hops. It has Chinook, Citra, Cascade, Tettnang, and Amarillo as a sort of brewing Hell’s Angels. The Red Rye variety also adds German Mandarina Bavaria hop, which adds some more citrus and floral flavors to blend with the delightful rye.

You know if you’re a Swamp Ape drinker. You know if having a hop lineup like that is up your alley. And if you are one of the above. the Red Rye varietal is a great place to get a unique twist on a Florida favorite.

That apparently will inspire you to photobomb.

Drink Florida Craft,
