I am fully aware that the name of this beer looks like I ran my finger across the keyboard of my computer. Not the case, dear reader.
But, if you know how to decipher it, you will realize that the name will give you clues as to the style, location, and adjunct used in brewing Twisted Trunk’s JDIPGA (IPA, 6.2% ABV, 60 IBU).
It’s an IPA, so we’ve got that part of rhe name down.
Explain the G? Sure. Twisted Trunk, the new brewery from Fran and the team at Tequesta Brewing, is located in Palm Beach County on the main thoroughfare that is PGA Boulevard.
Let’s stop here for a second. IPGA is one of Twisted Trunk’s core beers, and it has a wonderfully delicate fruitiness to it due to the use of El Dorado hops. Sure, it’s bold and bitter, but there are a lot of nice citrus nores the beer has as well.
Now we come to the JD part. And things get fun. You see, JDIPGA is Twisted Trunk’s IPGA marinated in Jack Daniels barrels.
And the Jack flavor is so rich and so strong, it’s a wonder that Slash hasn’t broken into the place to steal a few kegs. It gives the beer one heck of a heady kick and a deep whiskey aroma that is unmistakable.
So, problem solved. What appears to be a jumbled mess is, instead, the key to unlocking a rich, flavorful beer.
Plus I wrote this on my phone, and it’s incredibly difficult to make it look like I drug my fingers across the keyboard. So there.
