I think it’s been a pretty long time since Cigar City has graced the blog. Not because I hate them, but more because there are so many breweries in the state that are doing so many wonderful things that I’d like to showcase.
So, even though I’m still a little sore about the sale (and having bloggers like myself called liars by people who never apologized when we were proven correct), they still make a darn good pint of beer over on Spruce St.
Case in point, my recent quaff of their delicious Café Con Leche (Milk Stout, 6% ABV), on nitro, no less.
This particular variation of the coffee-infused milk stout uses Cuban Espresso beans for the java. While they are quite tasty, it’s the malt and lactose in the beer that tend to win out, giving the flavor of the beer a mellow, sweeter, and creamier flavor, all of which is liberally assisted by being on nitro.
The aroma of the beer mixes a bit of the espresso aroma with a natural coffee and brown sugar quality from the dark malts. It’s nice and almost midnight-black, deep and gorgeous.
So I will swallow my frustration and keep writing about Cigar City on occasion. As long as the beers are this good, it won’t be too hard.
