I’m not sure I had a single beer at my wedding, mostly because I more interested spending time with my beautiful new bride.
But if there was a new beer brewed for the event, that would have been cool. Most Florida brewers tend to do just this for their weddings, as was the case for one of the head brewers at Longwood’s Hourglass Brewing. For his special day, he brewed up the first batch of Wedding Saison (Farmhouse Ale, 5.9% ABV).
As a lighter beer, it’s amazingly complex with a blend of Saaz, Calypso, and Pacifica hops, along with Florida-grown kumquats. Add a blend of wild and house yeast and you have a fantastic blend that has a great effervescent feel, almost like a great champagne.
It’s nowhere near as rough on the palate as some saisons I’ve consumed. It’s nice and bubbly, with a festive fruity flow to the flavor of the beer that is buoyant and incredibly refreshing. Very easy to consume the entire bottle. But better with you significant other.
Okay, I want to go kiss my wife now.
