Brew Review – Coffee and Vanilla Bean Porter by Pinellas Ale Works @pawbeer

Pinellas Ale Works is one of those breweries that is sort of instantly endearing. The facility is really cool, the beer names are cute, and the beers themselves are pretty good.

Really good, in fact. It was a shame that I couldn’t stay (inside joke) for longer, but I did grab a few things for the road. One of those was a nice bomber of Coffee & Vanilla Bean Porter (Porter, 7.5% ABV).

Really good. I tend to avoid Baltic Porters as being just too close to the generally overharsh Russian Imperial Stouts. This one, however, is smooth and inviting even though it has just a touch of malts considered a bit heavier than a normal porter.

What’s interesting is the flavor of the adjuncts. When I tasted it, there was a great blend of a piquant coffee and a well-moderated sweetness from the vanilla beans. My friend, however, only tasted the coffee.

As far as I’m concerned, he’s crazy. It was very balanced and incredibly flavorful, from the malt to the coffee to the vanilla, and all points in between.

I have some more from PAW, and I am exited to return there in the future. I just promise to spend a bit more time.

Drink Florida Craft,

Dave

  1. Dear Beer-writer…..
What a great job you have worked yourself into!

It seems to me that a NEW craft-brewing company must come into existence every week!?!

Which are the oldest (Survivors are valuable!) in your area?

How many are left from the first five or ten? (yes, the same last name as one of your areas people……but we still don’t know HOW FAR BACK WE HAVE TO GO to find our commonality….probably to the Swiss MD who came to the U.S. in the 1700’s)
