Pinellas Ale Works is one of those breweries that is sort of instantly endearing. The facility is really cool, the beer names are cute, and the beers themselves are pretty good.
Really good, in fact. It was a shame that I couldn’t stay (inside joke) for longer, but I did grab a few things for the road. One of those was a nice bomber of Coffee & Vanilla Bean Porter (Porter, 7.5% ABV).
Really good. I tend to avoid Baltic Porters as being just too close to the generally overharsh Russian Imperial Stouts. This one, however, is smooth and inviting even though it has just a touch of malts considered a bit heavier than a normal porter.
What’s interesting is the flavor of the adjuncts. When I tasted it, there was a great blend of a piquant coffee and a well-moderated sweetness from the vanilla beans. My friend, however, only tasted the coffee.
As far as I’m concerned, he’s crazy. It was very balanced and incredibly flavorful, from the malt to the coffee to the vanilla, and all points in between.
I have some more from PAW, and I am exited to return there in the future. I just promise to spend a bit more time.
