Press Release – Brew Hub takes home two gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival

Brew Hub takes home two gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival® Rome City IPA and Three Tun English Bitter win coveted brewing honor

LAKELAND, Fla. (Oct. 10, 2017): Brew Hub, a craft brewer transforming traditional contract brewing into a multifaceted “partner brewing” model, received two gold medals at the 2017 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition. Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest commercial beer competition in the world and recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 98 beer-style categories were announced Oct. 7 at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony in Denver.

“There is no greater honor in the craft beer industry than winning a gold medal at GABF,” said Tim Schoen, CEO of Brew Hub. “To be awarded two in one year is unbelievable, and it speaks volumes about the talent, collaboration and hard work of our entire brewing team. I’m proud of them for bringing home gold, especially during a year with so many fantastic entries.”

Brew Hub was recognized in the Session India Pale Ale beer-style category for Rome City, an IPA brewed with two-row barley and caramel malts and finished with grapefruit peel. The beer includes a blend of Amarillo, Citra, Magnum, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops resulting in an easy-drinking, citrus forward session IPA. The beer is named in honor of Lakeland, the city where it is brewed. Rome City was one of the proposed names the city founders of Lakeland considered when incorporating in 1885. The beer is 5.8 percent alcohol by volume and 70 IBUs.

The brewer was also recognized in the Special Bitter beer-style category for Three Tun English Bitter, a sessionable ale brewed with English malts and hops, as well as an English ale yeast strain. Three Tun’s deep copper color, caramel flavors and balanced bitterness are a nostalgic tribute to the beers that pioneered hops in England. Three Tun is 4.5 percent alcohol by volume and 25 IBUs.

Rome City is available in six-packs of 12-ounce cans and on draught at fine craft beer establishments and retailers throughout Florida. Both beers are available in Brew Hub’s Tasting Room at its Lakeland brewery.

The 2017 GABF competition winners were selected by an international panel of 276 expert judges from 7,923 entries, plus 118 Pro-Am entries, received from 2,217 U.S. breweries.

“Each year the Great American Beer Festival showcases the best that American brewers have to offer,” said Chris Swersey, competition manager, Great American Beer Festival. “With a record 8,000 + entries, this year’s competition was the most competitive to date. Congratulations to all the winners who truly demonstrated why the U.S. is the world’s best and most diverse brewing nation.”
