Florida is the perfect place to visit when the weather gets warm! If you’re a Florida local, you won’t have to travel far to enjoy the beautiful weather. Springtime means getting outdoors more, heading to breweries with friends, and visiting one (or two) of the many amusement parks in the state! Whether you live in Florida or you’re visiting from out of town, you can’t go wrong spending spring break here! Check out these tips for staying safe while you enjoy your break.

Get Your Car Ready for the Drive

Depending on where you’re headed in Florida, even locals could have a little drive ahead of them. Stock up with emergency items like a spare tire and car jack, jumper cables, and flashlights. Bring plenty of water and healthy snacks to help keep you energized—particularly if you’re driving at night.

Stay Safe in the Sun

Because the sun is stronger the further south you go, your skin may not be used to Miami sun even if you live in North Florida. Wear plenty of sunscreen at all times, especially if you’re spending an entire day at the beach or an amusement park. Stay hydrated as well, and drink
even more water than you normally would if you’re sipping on alcohol during the day!

Stay Alert Behind the Wheel

When the weather heats up in Florida—and especially when schools have spring break—traffic can get incredibly heavy. Whether you’re headed to local breweries or crowded theme parks always be aware of other drivers on the roads. No matter how safe of a driver you may be, it’s impossible to predict the reactions and response times of other drivers on the road. Be ready for anything and drive defensively.

Be Aware of Your Surroundings

If you’re headed to one of Florida’s incredible theme parks like Disney World or Universal Studios, it’s extremely important to pay attention to your surroundings. Large crowds can create the tight quarters necessary for pickpockets to take action. It’s a good idea not to carry too much cash with you if you’ll be walking around all day. Keep your eyes open and your belongings close by at all times.

Have a Designated Driver

Do you plan to keep it casual at a local brewery or bar? If so, make sure you have a safe ride home. If a friend promises to be the designated driver, be sure they stick to it and aren’t drinking any alcohol. If they change their mind, just call an Uber or Lyft to get you and your friends home safe at the end of the night! Ride sharingis so easy, and it relieves the stress of relying on someone to remain sober. It’s also far more affordable than being convicted of driving under the influence, injuring yourself or injuring someone else.

A Final Note

Spring break is meant to be an exciting and relaxing time enjoyed with friends or family. Keep these 5 safety tips in mind when you embark on your spring break adventures this year. The more responsible choices you make, the more fun you will have!
