If you look way back, and I mean way back, several years ago you’ll find a blog post of my review on a beer called Blueberry Cottonmouth from Gainesville’s Swamp Head Brewery.
I was really excited to find some, as they had a very small distribution network for their exclusive releases in 22 oz. bombers.
It’s amazing how much time has changed. Swamp Head has ditched the bombers in favor of 12 oz. cans, they are now found in most of the state of Florida, and looking at the post, my photography setup has definitely improved.
Hatch, I don’t think that was even done of the house I currently live in. One thing that hasn’t changed, however, is that Swamp Head still releases Cottonmouth (Witbier, 5% ABV).
It’s their year-round, standard Belgian witbier, of which the blueberry variety I reviewed was merely one in a series of treatments they have done and released over the years. It makes perfect sense to do that with this beer since it is so stylistically on point, and being a witbier, it is very soft, unassuming, and receptive to adjuncts and treatments.
It doesn’t have quite the spicy kick that other witbiers do, making it a little softer and easier to drink. The citrus is there, laying on a pillow of ever-so lightly bready malt. Hops are noble and faint, adding just the slightest twinge to accentuate the flavor.
It’s nice to see one of the things that they didn’t change was that snake, poised in mid strike, ready to strike the fear into the hearts of quite a few people I know that are not exactly fans of our foot-free friends. I personally have no problem, both with snakes and with this witbier. And it’s nice to know I will be able to find it more often.
As for the old article, if you decide to read it,I make no apologies for how bad my writing was back then.
