I don’t know anything about investing. I could care less about hedge funds, I don’t play stocks, and every time I think of the movie Wall Street I want to punch a banker in the face.
I know even less about silly things like Dogecoin and the massive stock market situation that recently affected corporations like AMC Theatres and GameStop.
But I do know that $10 for 10 wings, fries, and a beer is a good value. Such as the Wing Wednesday deal at Fat Tap Beer Bar (and soon to be brewery) in Oakland Park. The offer did not apply to every beer they had on tap, and a quick look at their ever rotating tap list made it obvious as to why.
One of the beers in the deal is always a house lager, which at the time of my visit was Deep F*%#ing Value (Lager, 5.7% ABV) from Hourglass Brewing in Longwood and named for the stock trader behind the GameStop hubbub mentioned previously.
First, with the kinds of beers that Hourglass is known for producing, having it be a lager that was easily obtainable on tap is kind of amusing. But I asked for a lager, and it’s pretty darn good.
It’s everything it should be, with a nice deep golden hue, slightly bready malty aroma, all of which gives way to a very solid beer whose mouthfeel is enjoyably soft and drinkability is very high.
This is not a hop lovers beer; the equatorial hops mentioned in its bill of sale tend to be just this side of Noble, allowing those delectable malts the time to sit and blend and play around with a lengthy cold conditioning.
It’s a beer that took full advantage of its beauty sleep, and rightfully so.
I’m also going to assume that drinking this beer is a good deal more fun than playing the stock market, infinitely cheaper, and if it’s still on tap in Oakland Park this Wednesday, that draft will come with wings and fries as well. That’s pretty good value I say.
Much more than whatever GameStop stock is up to.
