Brew Review – Kali IPA by Oviedo Brewing

I’m not going to lie, I’ve been growing rather partial to California.

Sure, I don’t get out that way very often, and I’m not sure if I could handle life on the West Coast after so much craziness here on the East, but it’s always been a pretty cool place whenever I’ve gone.

That pout of the way, I don’t understand why anybody in Florida would so readily promote any other states, much less our nation’s most populous state.

But here we are, with Oviedo Brewing and their year-round release Kali IPA (IPA, 6.5% ABV, 65 IBU).

I am firmly aware that California does not contain a K, and based on that alone one could make a pretty solid case this does not reference the Golden State, but the extensive label art showing the whole of California kind of removes any doubt what the inspiration is.

I would readily assume the naming inspiration is because the beer contained within is a fairly tasty West Coast IPA. There are nice citrus notes with the faintest whiff of a piney alpha acid.

The flavor brings a big bitterness, mixed with juicy citrus flavors from a hop list of Amarillo, Cascade, Centennial, and Warrior hops. It’s bright and sunny and wrapped in a beautiful golden hue, much like the Golden State it was meant to represent.

Does this mean the end of Florida Beer Blog? Probably not, but I will say I do enjoy my California beers from my California breweries from time to time. The fact that it’s made here in Central Florida just makes it all the more worthwhile.

Plus I don’t have to deal with earthquakes.
