Brew Review – Sonora by Lauderale

First, they probably don’t have it anymore. Let’s just get that on the table.

Second, this beer was very good when I tasted it, don’t blame me that I’m just now getting around to writing the article.

Third, I know that I am writing about a Mexican-style lager at a time better known for celebrating all things German. There’s some connections there, I guess, if you decide to look for them.

Fourth, the name of the beer is probably the name of the dog. I don’t know whose dog this is, I don’t know if the dog is still around, but I’m fairly positive I remember seeing this dog at the brewery once or twice.

Fifth, there’s a lot of amazing wildlife on the label art, including the monkeys (of which there are wild roving packs in and around Ft. Lauderdale International Airport). The airport is, of course, very close to where Lauderale is located.

Seven, is that a Bufo toad on the side?

Eight: The beer, Sonora (Mexican Lager, 4.2% ABV), is a Mexican lager with a hint of lime and a heck of a lot more flavor than other Mexican lagers I have tried.

Mexican lagers tend to be quick, simple-offs with a ton of bite in all the wrong places and some pretty rough after tastes. Sonora is nice and light, a pale yellow (almost greenish?) color.

Nine, I know it’s not actually green, but like I said, there’s a lot of lime in here.

The aroma is very Margarita, but muted. This isn’t full on lime, squeezing the fruit directly into your mouth. It’s just got those hints, and it’s quite enjoyable.

The flavor is great, it’s nice and light as expected, with just a hint of lime tartness on the back end and a nice, crisp finish. It’s a very easy drinking lager, something very simple and muted, but still flavorful and enjoyable for warm days. I wish I had some around right now, actually. It would be a perfect beverage.

In the meantime, I will try and get my blog posts out in a more timely fashion. Just enjoy the rather crazy label art for what it is.

Ten, now how do you say cheers in Spanish?
