Brewery Visit – 3 Daughters Brewing

As a soon to be father of a daughter, it’s nice to be able to talk to a man who has three daughters of his own and can give you advice.

Of course, when that conversation also focuses on beer, that’s just a win-win situation all around.

Brew Review – Sweet Barleywine by 3 Daughters

One thing I really like about 3 Daughters Brewing in St. Petersburg is the fact that their beers, according to owner Mike Harting, are consistent.

Every beer that head brewer Ty Weaver makes is consistent with standards for those beers. If he makes a porter, it’ll be a porter and not a porter-IPA-farmhouse hybrid sort of thing.

As a beer drinker, I like that. It’s good to know that if I order a classic style of beer, it will be their recipe iteration of something that is readily identifiable. So when I got a pint of their Sweet Barleywine (Barleywine, 13.5% ABV), I knew what to expect.

BURGERFI, the South Florida-based craft burger and beer restaurant, is in the middle of a series of summer beer pairing events at their Tampa restaurant. Brew Review – St. Pete Orange Wheat by St. Pete Brewing

Man, St. Petersburg is doing something right with craft beer.

They have some pretty big and up-and-coming names in the Florida brewing industry: 3 Daughters, Green Bench, Cycle, and St. Pete Brewing Co.

A gorgeous, extended St. Pete Brewing Co. logo.

They’re not too far from Tropicana Field and have a pretty good line of beers on tap at their tap house, along with co-owners that have studied business and a head brewer that’s been brewing in multiple states. Basically, there’s a solid team behind the bar here. Including one ‘beer therapist;’ I’d like to know what that’s about… Continue reading

Brew Review – Hillbilly Highlander by 3 Daughters

I do a lot of talking about St. Pete’s 3 Daughters Brewing, and it’s for a simple reason: They brew good beer. They’re one of the many, many Florida breweries that produce and distribute their standard beers in cans, but send special releases out in 22 oz. bombers.

And because they’re all wonderful people, I was able to get a hold of their latest special release, the very interestingly titled Hillbilly Highlander (Wee Heavy, 8% ABV).

Brew Review – Bimini Twist IPA by 3 Daughters Brewing

I was under the impression, when I first heard about Bimini Twist, that it was some sort of Caribbean drink. Big, with lots of fruit, lots of rum, and possibly a little paper umbrella.

And, as is my life from time to time, I was wrong. It’s a knot. A very complicated, very strong, very inaccessible to my clumsy hands knot.

And naming an IPA after it makes perfect sense, knowing how much the brewers at St. Petersburg’s 3 Daughters Brewing love their fishing, and the ocean in general.

Help out Melissa Wolf at 3 Daughters Brewing

Edit – She won! Yay! Congratulations to Melissa and thank you to everyone that voted to help out one of your own in the craft beer community.

Original article:

Okay, here’s the background: Squaremouth is a travel insurance company based in St. Petersburg, FL. Basically, if you want to insure future travel, they can apparently do it all.

They have also been running a Thank You campaign to promote service industry employees in and around St. Pete. It involved visits to plenty of service locations (hotels, restaurants, etc.) in the area, saw who gave them the absolute best customer service (anonymously, of course), and presented the top 20 with $1,000.

One of those 20 people was Melissa Wolf from 3 Daughters Brewing.

Brew Review – Old Number One by 3 Daughters Brewing

A little while ago, 3 Daughters Brewing in St. Petersburg celebrated their 1st anniversary brewing in the Tampa Bay area. And while cans of their Bimini Twist IPA and Beach Blonde Ale are popping up all over Florida, and you can always get a growler fill at the 3 Daughters brewery, that anniversary party was the only time you would have been able to get a bomber of the exclusive Old Number One Barleywine (English Barleywine, 10% ABV, 89 IBU).
